4 art exhibitions to visit in KL throughout May 2022

KL is home to some of the best art galleries and exhibitions in the country. As we enter the endemic phase, more and more events are starting, including art exhibitions.
As the long weekend approaches, we’ve curated four amazing art exhibitions to fit into your schedule. Explore the unique artworks of six talented Orang Asal artists represented through various art forms at GMBB. If abstract art is your passion, head to the Wei-Ling Gallery in Brickfields for “Abstraction Now!”.
For a unique experience, A+ Works of Art presents a special exhibition in collaboration with the UP Vargas Museum, Philippines. ‘Synthetic Condition’ featuring over 10 talented artists from Taipei to London explores how contemporary art is created using cosmologies through synthesis technology, techniques and procedures.

Abstract now! By Wei-Ling Gallery, May 5 – 28, 2022
Located in the Wei Ling Gallery, “Abstraction Now” highlights the unique styles of abstraction through the eyes of five local artists: Annabell Ng, Choy Chun Wei, Hamidi Hadi, Sabri Idrus and Zulkifli Lee. The exhibition focuses on how abstraction is embraced and translated into works of art that push boundaries.

Synthetic condition by A+ Work of Art Asia, May 7 – June 25, 2022

Curated by Carlos Quijon Jr. and in collaboration with the UP Vargas Museum, “Synthetic Condition” features works by talented artists from Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines and more. Head to A+ Works of art on Jalan Sentul, KL, and learn how contemporary art is crafted using cosmologies through synthesis technology, techniques and procedures. The exhibition explores a plethora of articulations with chroma key, collages and compositesa metahistorical film, a video game, local crystals and textile sculptures.

‘Epistolaristics’ by GMBB on the 3rd floor (units 3-15 to 3-17, 3-47), April 30 – June 5, 2022

‘Epistolaristics’ is curated by Alfonse Chiu of the Center for Urban Mythologies and co-presented by Gerimis Art Project as part of Glossaries of Unwritten Knowledge. The visual arts exhibition of GMBB features works by six talented and unique Orang Asal artists and filmmakers – Tiyan Baker, Albert Bansa, Jesse Joy, Mariane, Ashly Nandong and Charles Rentap Mclean. As a tribute to arts and culture, this exhibition explores the diverse possibilities of Orang Asal storytelling through various art forms: contemporary art, film, performance and embroidery.

ILHAM Art Fair 2022, May 17 – October 23

ILHAM Gallery presents the first ILHAM Art Show 2022 from May 17 to October 23, 2022, a three-year exhibition platform initiated to give Malaysian artists the opportunity to experiment and create new works. The ILHAM Art Show 2022 includes works that explore complex narratives, from the personal to the political, from the historical to the conceptual. Works that incorporate traditions and technologies, old and new, address diverse topics ranging from contested histories, migration and concepts of time to fantasy worlds, healing rituals and connections to culture and land.
