ACC Announces Weekly Women’s Lacrosse Honors

GREENSBORO, North Carolina (theACC.com) – Boston College graduate forward Charlotte North and Virginia Tech freshman midfielder Olivia Vergano were named ACC Co-Offensive Players of the Week, and BC sophomore defenseman Sydney Scales and Syracuse senior defenseman Sarah Cooper were named co-defensive players of the week during the conference. announced the weekly women’s lacrosse honors on Tuesday.
North topped wins over No. 11 Denver (9-5) and Yale (21-9), leading the team with 11 goals and 12 points overall. Vergano scored eight goals last week in two wins for Virginia Tech. She recorded five points with four goals and an assist on Thursday in the Hokies’ 14-13 loss to No. 15 Notre Dame. A native of Walpole, Mass., Scales played a key defensive role in the Eagles’ wins over Denver and Yale. She helped DU’s Lauren Black, the reigning Big East Conference forward of the week, to zero goals. She also helped limit Bea Behrins, the Pioneers’ leading scorer, to just one goal. She totaled four ground balls and two caused turnovers for the week.
Seven ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest Inside Lacrosse Women/IWLCA poll, with the ACC each holding the top three spots and seven of the top 25. Boston College was the unanimous selection at No. 1 and is followed by North Carolina (2), Syracuse (3), Duke (8), Virginia (14), Notre Dame (16) and Virginia Tech (24). The ACC has the most teams in the poll of any conference.
