SHEFFIELD, Mass., October 14, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Berkshire Mountain Distillers (BMD) released three new whiskeys from popular brewers Smuttynose Brewery, Ommegang Brewery, and Captain Laurent Brewery as a member of Whiskey project from craft brewers.
These whiskeys are part of a six-year collaboration led by BMD, award-winning maker of a select range of premier craft spirits, and includes the distillation of a dozen beers from a limited collection of craft brewers in the Northeast.
In July, the Craft Brewers whiskey project was cited in the Great National Championship of the US Open Whiskey & Spirits 2021 or Jack’s Abby Smoke & Dagger Whiskey won a gold medal. This success prompted BMD to distill another round of whiskeys from brewers whose Big Elm Brewing, Two Roads Brewing and Night Shift Brewing.
âThere is a wonderful fusion between the worlds of craft spirits and beer – a lot of people who drink whiskey also love craft beer,â said Chris Welding, founder of BMD. “We are delighted that these whiskeys are finally ready to taste and that people are taking note.”
Featured in this month’s version, the hearty malt blend of Really Old Brown Dog Strong Ale of Smuttynosis brings notes of wild flower honey and tangerine zest as well as a slightly spicy ginger finish BMD whiskey. Rich and complex, Ommegang’s Three Philosophers Brewery is a blend of Belgian-style quadrupel and Belgian kriek, and gives this whiskey a malty depth and sweet smoothness with a touch of cherry. Liquid gold of Captain Laurent is a Belgian-American beer – light golden in color, but full of flavor bringing hints of clove and citrus to the finished whiskey.
The first releases of Craft Brewers Whiskey Project were distilled from six Massachusetts brewers including Samuel adams, Berkshire Brewing Company, Jack’s Abby, Massachusetts Bay Brewery, Spencer Brewery, and Big Elm Brewery – Big Elm Is exhausted. The final release of the whiskey during the holiday season will highlight Long track, Two roads, and Chatham Brewery.
The whiskeys are sold in the BMD tasting room and available in some stores. The distillery, located at 356 South Main Street in Sheffield, is open every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit craftbrewerswhikeyproject.com and BMD; to follow Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
