Bidorbuy and uAfrica merge to create a new e-commerce platform
Andy Higgins, the founder of auction site Bidorbuy and a pioneer of e-commerce in South Africa, runs a new venture which he hopes will make it easier for small and medium-sized businesses to sell their products online.
The company, called Bob Group, is a merger of Bidorbuy and uAfrica, a logistics software company he co-founded. It will offer a full range of e-commerce services to South African businesses, including an online marketplace, inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping tool, online payments and online messaging software. as a service.
Higgins, who founded Bidorbuy in 1999, said the merger of Bidorbuy and uAfrica “brings all e-commerce to all South African consumers and businesses operating online, whether they are looking to sell, buy – or both.” . He expects to attract small and medium-sized businesses that don’t necessarily have the in-house capabilities to create e-commerce solutions themselves.
“The merger means merchants will now be offered a full set of e-commerce services, including payments, logistics and a marketplace,” it said in a statement.
This Friday, TechCentral’s new technologies fair CT|Daily, will feature a wide-ranging interview with Higgins about Bob Group. In the interview, he also shares his views on the evolution of e-commerce in South Africa, particularly in light of the imminent – although not yet officially confirmed – launch of a local Amazon.com marketplace. Watch a preview of the CT|Daily interview with Higgins below.
Higgins said Bob Group will be different from other marketplaces in South Africa, including market leader Takealot, by taking a decentralized rather than a centralized approach to e-commerce. This, he said, will allow Bob Group to price its services “much more competitively”.
“We are more seller-friendly than our competition,” he said. “Sellers can expect a more profitable offering based on intuitive, easy-to-use sales and fulfillment tools. Where previously we focused exclusively on the marketplace, this merger will enable us to provide merchant empowerment tools across all sales channels they are active on, including their own websites and third-party channels.
The services offered by Bob Group include:
- A tool that allows merchants to synchronize products from their online stores with Bidorbuy, and a real-time solution for product and stock updates;
- Shipping and tracking solutions;
- A payment facilitator that offers merchants the ability to charge buyers with their preferred payment method; and
- A software-as-a-service solution providing technology for courier companies to manage their business, including a driver app, customer and admin portals, and billing. – © 2022 NewsCentral Media
