Indians list things Bollywood does better than Hollywood
What we love about Bollywood or Tollywood or any desi cinema is that it’s full of drama, thrill, masalaswag and OTT everything.
Our films are a bit wacky and far from reality; we agree that they sometimes show unrealistic things that never happen in real life, but that’s exactly the kind of adrenaline-pumping entertainment we’re all looking for, isn’t it?
We are just as EXTRA as our movies and even if we end up dissing everything wrong with Bollywoodincluding nepotism, sexist jokes, and squeaky comedy, there’s so much to enjoy too.
This Reddit thread is just that.
Desis on Reddit recently listed all the things Indian movies excel at and do much better than Hollywood and this is a discussion for all moviegoers.
1.”Bollywood is amazing in color. Hollywood has a more balanced approach to color compared to Bollywood which brings out the color or thematizes the color in a very creative way (DDLJ/RNBDJ – Yellow, KANK – Blue, KHNH – Red, Sholay has mastered the combination of fire Yellow and Red which pretty much translates with every poster you see).” –dav_eh
2.”Family entertainment. A movie that anyone can sit back and enjoy lazy Sunday afternoons.” –asseesh
3.”Larger-than-life characters are better addressed here than in West. and obviously, Masala films, the amalgamation of 420 genres in 2h30 is something so common in Indian films that we don’t appreciate it enough.” –donandres08
4.”Entry Hero ki…… Even Marvel superheroes don’t have the hard-hitting entry like a good Bollywood/southern movie…… (I would still take Surya’s entry in Vikram rather than the hard-hitting entry entry of Toby or Andrew in spiderman 3 day)” –Throwaway_acc97
5.”Musical comedies. HW’s latest famous modern musical is La La Land and it’s completely overrated. The same movie made in BW would be much better. Indian films have a very good sense of music and choreography and we have traveled miles since the random song. Plus, the music feels better integrated into the storyline.” –icomeinpeaceTO
6.”The love that is not sex.” –rnjbond
seven.”Emosan. Too. Hollywood is lacking that. So many actors just have a wooden face. In our case in the 80s, there was “maa, mein ne tumhare doodh piya hai”, behen ki shaadi tropes, excessive breakup drama. Heroes who cry more than heroines. Shelf. I think I’m a sensitive person because being emotional was tolerated by our film culture.” –According-Swimmer-85
